M’baré N’gom earned a Doctorate in Iberian and Ibero-American Studies from the Université de Paris-Sorbonne (Paris IV, France), and a Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies (D.E.A.) from the same institution. In addition, he received a degree in International Studies/Diplomacy from Escuela Diplomatica de España (School for Diplomacy), (Madrid, Spain). He is a Professor of Spanish and Latin American Studies, and French and Francophone Studies at Morgan State University. He currently serves as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Morgan State University.
A former Fulbright fellow to Peru (2002), an NEH Summer Institute Fellow (UT Austin/ Universidad de Las Americas, Puebla, Mexico), he is the recipient of four Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad awards as a program director (Peru 2002; Peru 2011; Senegal and The Gambia 2016; Colombia 2019) for international professional and curriculum development. He has served on several dissertation committees in the U.S., Canada, Colombia, Senegal, and France.
He has served on the board of directors of several professional organizations, including National Chair of the Association of African Studies Programs (2006-2007); Board of Directors of the West African Research Asssociation (WARA) (2013-18), and the Maryland State Advisory Council for Gifted and Talented Education(2012-15). Currently, he is a member of the following boards/groups: Red Internacional Literatura Hispanoamericana y sus Valores (Universidad de Costa Rica & Universidad de La Sabana, Colombia, 2010-Present); AFROAMERICA. Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico; International Advisor for MIGRA: Database of Migrant Writers in Iberian Languages, Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, Spain.
He has published over seventy essays in national and international peer-reviewed professional journals, including Hispania, Canadian Journal of Hispanic Studies, Diáspora, Francofonía, Australian Journal of French Studies, Caribe, Afro-Hispanic Review, Cruz Ansata, Revista Iberoamericana, Utah Foreign Language Review, Journal of Afro-Latin American Studies and Literatures, Caminería Hispánica, Voces, Callalloo Quimera, and Perifrasis as well as book chapters and encyclopedia entries. He is the author of Diálogos con Guinea: panorama de la literatura guineoecuatoriana de expresión castellana a través de sus protagonistas (Madrid 1996), and co-author of Literatura de Guinea Ecuatorial (Antología) (Madrid 2000), and editor of La reconstrucción de la memoria y de la identidad nacional en la literatura hispano-negroafricana (Alcalá de Henares 2004), Escribir la identidad: creación cultural y negritud en el Perú (Lima, Peru 2008); co-author of Nueva Antologia de la Literatura de Guinea Ecuatorial (Madrid 2012), author of Palabra Abierta (Madrid, 2013) and Antologia de la literatura afroperuana (Lima, Peru, 2016).
